Biography

Beryl Carroll is a leading pre-school childcare expert with over 25 years experience of working with young children and their carers.

Beryl began her work with pre-school children in Sweden, first as a nursery officer in Malmo, then as a nursery teacher in Astorp. She moved to the UK in 1988 and joined Early Years Childcare the following year. Beryl became manager of the Company's flagship, 74 place nursery in Hove, East Sussex and initiated a number of ideas concepts which set a new standard in high quality, nursery-based childcare in UK.

In 2000 Beryl joined the Head Office team and became Project Manager for the TEECHE project (Training for Early Years Education and Childcare in Europe) leading a team of six partners from Austria, Netherlands and UK with funding from the European Union's Leonardo Programme. As a result of her previous work and the feedback she gained from the project, the European Childcare Qualification (ECQ ) has now been developed.

During her career Beryl has attended and led many professional training courses and is also a qualified National Vocational Qualification Assessor in Early Years Education. In summer 2005 Beryl was asked to speak at the World Forum in Early Care and Education in Montreal, Canada about the impact of the TEECHE project.

Beryl has a degree in Psychology from the University of Linkoping, Sweden as well as her professional foundation level teaching qualification from University of Lund. In the UK, Beryl gained her NVQ Assessor status from South Downs College, East Sussex.

Beryl has two sons who have now left home and she lives in Steyning, West Sussex with her husband, Ray. Her interests include travelling, interior design and gardening.
